Azure Free Account FAQ
What do I get when I sign up for a free account? You get an Azure account, plus a RM$900 credit to spend on Azure services for 30 days. You can use this RM$900 credit to try out any combination of Azure services, exploring our cloud for free.
Do I pay anything for the free account?
No. It’s free, plus you get a RM$900 credit you can spend during the first 30 days.
Do I have to pay something after 30 days?
No. You never have to pay anything unless you choose to transition to paid services with a Pay-As-You-Go Azure subscription, which you can cancel at any time. Even after you transition, you can continue using many Azure services that offer a free tier without incurring any charges.
How do I know how much of the RM$900 I’ve used and how much I have left?
Your remaining credit is shown at the top of the management portal, so you always know where you stand.
What do I need in order to sign up for a free account?
All you need is a phone number, a credit card, and a Microsoft Account username (formerly Windows Live ID).
Why do I need to provide a credit card and phone number?
One of the ways we keep prices low is to verify that account holders are real people, not bots or anonymous trouble-makers. We use the phone number and credit card for identity verification. We don’t charge your credit card anything, but you may see a RM$4.45 verification hold on your credit card account, which is removed within 3 to 5 days.
What happens once I use all of my RM$900 free credit?
We will notify you so you can decide if you want to transition to a Pay-As-You-Go Azure subscription. If you do, great. You start paying for the services you want to use. If not, don’t worry, you won’t be billed anything, but you will no longer be able to access services.
What happens with the services I created after 30 days?
The RM$900 credit expires after 30 days, and you can either let any services you’ve deployed be decommissioned (and you won’t have access to them anymore) or transition to a Pay-As-You-Go Azure subscription, paying only for what you use moving forward.
What if I can’t fully use the credit within 30 days?
We can’t extend the expiration date on the RM$900 credit, sorry.
Is the free account and RM$900 credit available internationally?
Yes. The free account and RM$900 credit are available in all countries/regions where Azure is commercially available. Azure is currently commercially available in 140 countries/regions including Malaysia
Can I apply any of my RM$900 credit towards Azure Marketplace offers?
No, your credit can’t be applied to Azure Marketplace offers. However, many Azure Marketplace partners offer free trials and/or free tier plans for their solutions.
